The Bangkok Gentlemen Spoofers

The Bangkok Gentlemen Spoofers [BGS] school of spoofing is based at The British Club, Bangkok, and was founded in 1988. It is for certain the longest running spoofing school in South-East Asia and, we believe, the longest continuously running weekly spoofing school in the Northern Hemisphere. Spoof is played in the Churchill Bar of the British Club every Tuesday evening from about 9:00 pm onwards. Alcoholic beverages are still modestly priced in Bangkok (when compared with London !) and therefore newcomers should not be afeared of "copping the odd round" or even of incurring the occasional Fine of a round of Port in restitution for any misdemeanours contrary to the very simple Rules of spoofing.

The BGS host two championships during the year. In early December, we hold the Thai National Spoofing Championships, which have been held annually since 1988, and at some point during he summer months of June/July, we host the Asian Spoofing Championships, which were inaugurated in 2003. The Asians have attracted entries from as far afield as Korea, Australia and Europe, with regular support now coming each year from the Middle East. The world-famous Coin-Warmers, who put in an appearance at every Asians, no doubt assist in boosting the popularity of this contest.

At the two annual championships, we also raise money for our BGS Charity Fund, the money from which is all spent on projects which benefit socially deprived or physically handicapped children in Thailand. We have now raised well over one million baht for these projects and every single baht has been spent to the direct benefit of the children, with zero being diverted for administrative purposes. In the past, we have funded many projects including :
Fitting out a kitchen at a Bangkok residential home for disabled children; buying the instruments and electrical equipment for a band at a Chiang Mai orphanage; purchasing 40 bicycles for children at a rural school in Isaan; building a classroom for a slum-school in Bangkok, building a library for a village school in Isaan, re-roofing and refurbishing a primary school run by a charity in Phuket.

Please join us on a Tuesday evening -- all Gentlemen are welcome !
